A
VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) is used to control the speed of an AC motor, so it operates with
AC (Alternating Current).
Hereβs how it works:
- The VFD converts the incoming AC power to DC (Direct Current) using a rectifier circuit.
- Then, it uses an inverter circuit to convert the DC back to AC, but at a variable frequency. This variable frequency allows the speed of the motor to be controlled.
So, while the VFD involves both AC and DC in its operation, it is primarily used to control
AC motors.
